Leadership through interdisciplinary teaching and learning...
The School of Education offers academic programs leading to bachelor's and master's degrees that meet both initial/professional and professional certification requirements of the State of New York. Our programs are approved by the New York State Education Department and we are proud members of the American Association of Quality Educator Preparation, anticipating AAQEP Accreditation in early 2022. All courses are designed for students to achieve competencies identified by local P-12 school district personnel and prescribed by the New York State Education Department.
To prepare teacher leaders with the pedagogical content knowledge and skills to educate learners in diverse and socially just classrooms.
To empower educators who use their training to build equitable and inclusive learning communities in and outside of the classroom.
AAQEP Site Accreditation Visit
October 19-20, 2021
The School of Education at SUNY Old Westbury will host a virtual accreditation visit by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP). Success in securing this national accreditation will assure for the students and community the quality of the School of Education's professional preparation programs through a process of self-study and peer review.
This standards- and evidence-based process serves two broad aims: accountability and continuous improvement. The AAQEP model is also designed to honor local context and foster innovation and collaboration among institutions. Following the site visit, AAQEP is expected to make its accreditation decision about the College's candidacy in the Spring 2022 semester.
