Health Requirements for Students

Immunization Record

New York State Public Health Law (PHL) 2165 requires all enrolled college students born after January 1, 1957 to show proof of immunity against measles, mumps and rubella. 

New York State Public Health Law (PHL) 2167 requires proof of meningococcal vaccine or a signed declination. Institutions, including colleges and universities, are required to distribute information about meningococcal disease and vaccine to all students meeting enrollment criteria, whether they live on or off campus. Failure to provide proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, and Meningitis or a signed Meningitis declination will result in disenrollment from classes 30 days from the start of the semester for domestic students and 45 days from the start of the semester for international students.

Covid-19

Effective May 22, 2023, students of SUNY Old Westbury are no longer required to be vaccinated against COVID-19. We will, however, continue to require reporting of vaccination status as required by SUNY policy. 

Insurance

Students seeking private medical and dental insurance are encouraged to visit the New York State of Health Insurance Marketplace. International students should contact the International Student Advisor in the Office of International Enrollment Services for information about mandatory health insurance coverage.
