Whether you are an international student who will study on a student visa or an exchange student who will be studying abroad for one semester, the Office of International Enrollment Services is here to support you. Our office supports the needs and development of our international student community with ongoing admissions advisement, visa processing and monitoring, and programs to connect students to academic services, cultural activities, and campus events and organizations.
Our goal? To help international students achieve their academic, personal, and professional goals.
International Student and Scholar Support Services
Each international student receives guidance and support from our international office staff from the time the student submits an application until the time he or she leaves the Old Westbury community. The Office plans cultural and social events to enrich students’ experiences of the United States and works collaboratively with various offices to ensure that each student is successful in his or her academic and professional endeavors.
OIES coordinates many different activities with other student clubs and organizations on campus to make sure that our international students are learning beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, events that focus on the different aspects of various cultures are promoted or organized by our Office to help our students learn more about their fellow students and local communities. Field trips to NYC, Philadelphia, or Washington DC are usually one of many exciting opportunities to explore the local neighborhoods or other regions near us.
OIES Advisors routinely meet with all international students to remain informed about how each student is adjusting to the American culture. Students can speak with an OIES Advisor to find the appropriate resources available at the College if they need additional assistance with studying in English or learning how to adjust their study habits
Study Abroad
OIES assists students wishing to study abroad through SUNY Old Westbury’s exchange universities and other SUNY and partnering institutions. Students receive guidance in choosing a program that is suited to meet their interests. Information sessions on funding study abroad, choosing the right program and its professional benefits are held throughout the year. Study abroad counselors work closely with students to help navigate them through the process.
