National First-Generation Celebration Day is observed on November 8 to honor the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965, which expanded college opportunities for low-income and first-generation students. Started in 2017 by the Council for Opportunity in Education and The Center for First-Generation Student Success this event is now in its eighth year. Schools and organizations across the nation celebrate the achievements of first-generation students, faculty, staff and alumni.
