NY - Alert Sign-Up Instructions (Faculty and Staff)

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to sign up for the Emergency Alert Contact Information service provided by NY-Alert. 

This service will verify your identity and enable you will be able to use the Password & Account Management Portal's automated password reset tool in combination with your cell phone's text messaging service (SMS) in order to reset your OLDWESTBURY domain account's password.

SUNY College at Old Westbury is participating in SUNY-NY Alert, an emergency information system that sends text messages, e-mail announcements, and automated voice-mail messages to those who wish to receive them in the event an emergency occurs at Old Westbury.  All students, faculty and staff are urged to sign up for this system. Follow the directions below to register for SUNY-NY Alert: 
  1. Visit the College portal: connect.oldwestbury.edu
  2. Login.
  3. Click "Emergency Alert Contact Information (Click NY-Alert on page)"; then click "Emergency Alert Contact Information (NY-ALERT)" and fill out form.
    • For Faculty, it is under "Faculty Tools"
    • For Staff, it is under "Quik Links" 
  4. Provide the requested information in full and click “Continue” at each prompt. The fields on this page must be completed fully for your registration in the SUNY NY-Alert system to be activated. Please be sure to give a phone number for BOTH voice messages and text messages
  5. Verify that the information is correct and click "REGISTER ME WITH NY-ALERT" or "SUBMIT" button
Reset Email and Network Account Password (Faculty & Staff)

This article will help faculty and staff to reset Email and Network Account Password.

This account enables access to the following systems:

  1. Office 365
  2. Blackboard
  3. Campus networks
  4. Computer login

After signing up with NY Alert system, please proceed to:

If you are having difficulty using the password reset portal, please stop by NAB room 0107 (with a valid photo ID) for assistance.

For security reasons, passwords cannot be reset over the phone.

To Apply for Faculty/Staff Banner Account

To apply for Faculty/Staff Banner account:

  1. Download and print the Banner Account Request Form 
  2. Check box "Banner"
  3. Fill out your personal/department information
  4. Check the class code(s) that will be assigned to you
  5. Obtain all necessary signatures
  6. Return the form to room G100

Faculty Blackboard Learn Help

Bb Digital Dropbox
The digital dropbox has been replaced by the assignments tool in Blackboard Learn, Release 9.1.
The assignments tool includes many improvements over the digital dropbox, including:
  • Downloading all student submissions in a single file.
  • Associating the assignment with a Grade Center column.
  • Managing multiple files at one time.
  • Determining the number of attempts a student can make.

Other alternatives for student file sharing include BlogsJournals, the Discussion Board, and Wikis.

How to Get Mathematica

Mathematica is currently installed in the following locations:

Computer clusters

The campus license allows users to install Mathematica on a dedicated cluster, or in a distributed, or ad-hoc, grid environment. If you would like more information about this, please let Andy Dorsett at Wolfram Research know.

Faculty and staff personally owned machines

Fill out this form to request a home-use license from Wolfram. Our site license number is L3321-2413.

Student personally owned machines

Follow the directions below to download from the Wolfram User Portal. 

  1. Create an account (New users only):
    1. Go to user.wolfram.com and click "Create Account"
    2. Fill out form using a @oldwestbury.edu email, and click "Create Wolfram ID"
    3. Check your email and click the link to validate your Wolfram ID
  2. Request the download and key:
    1. Fill out this form to request an Activation Key
    2. Click the "Product Summary page" link to access your license
    3. Click "Get Downloads" and select "Download" next to your platform
    4. Run the installer on your machine, and enter Activation Key at prompt
