The SUNY Old Westbury logo and Brandmark are the primary elements in the University's brand identity. They reflect the campus’ iconic verdant campus and use its well-recognized deep green color meant to project our stable, highly focused atmosphere."
The SUNY Old Westbury logo and brandmark are available for download in two formats: EPS (for printing) and JPEG (for online use). All marks can be obtained via the Brand Asset Download Center. The download center can be accessed through the “Communications” card within the Service Hub available in the ConnectOW portal.
The campus also makes available spirit marks for use by campus offices and departments.
Usage Guidelines
- The primary university logo is used as the representative mark of the university as a whole. Custom logos of any kind that are created without prior approval by Communications and University Relations should only be used for materials distributed on campus. The primary logo is preferred for all uses, especially on collateral that will be distributed regionally or nationally.
- Recognized student organizations (Student Government-funded clubs, honor societies, fraternities and sororities, etc.) may not use any official SUNY Old Westbury logos within their organization’s logos or marks with the exception of logos provided by Communications and University Relations under the university signature system explained on this page.
- SUNY Old Westbury employees and students are not permitted to use the university name, logo or official graphic identifiers in the promotion or endorsement of any political/social movement or candidate for public office, or for any activity not officially sponsored by the university.
- Companies that do business with the university are not permitted to promote their products or advertise their services using SUNY Old Westbury logos and/or official graphic identifiers unless specifically granted permission to do so by the university. Such permission is typically granted for a limited time, and all materials must be approved by Communications and University Relations.

University Logo & Brandmark
SUNY Old Westbury adopted its current primary university logo in February 2015.
The logomark is a graphic representation of trees with a path winding among them, meant to convey the quiet, sequestered setting that is our campus.
The logotype is the university’s name, SUNY Old Westbury, in all capital letters with “SUNY” set in Century Gothic and “Old Westbury” in Caslon.
A secondary version where “SUNY” is stacked alongside the logomark above “Old Westbury” is available for uses that might require a slightly narrower version of the logo. While the secondary version is available, the primary logo should only be used in almost every instance.
The campus’ brandmark was also adopted in February 2015. This mark is a combination of the logomark with interlocking letters “O” and “W.” The brandmark is designed for use in less formal settings, including campus flyers, posters and promotional materials.
On materials produced for external audiences, all effort should be made to use the university logo rather than the brandmark.
Logo and Brandmark Treatment
The university logo and brandmark may be used against light and solid backgrounds and is available for download in the campus’ primary green color, white and black. Those are the ONLY colors in which the logo should appear.
When representing the logo, all elements must be used as displayed. Do not rearrange, reconfigure or separate the elements of either of the campus’ graphic identifiers.
Logo and Brandmark Usage Guidelines
- None of the university logo variations nor the campus’ brandmark should be recolored, stretched, or modified in any way.
- When reproducing the logo or brandmark, be sure to observe the clear space requirements, leaving space at least one-quarter inch (1/4-inch) around all sides of the graphic logo or brandmark.
- In general, the logo or brandmark when colored green or black should be used on white or light-colored backgrounds, and versions in white should be used over dark colors or photography to provide ample contrast.
- It is important that background colors provide sufficient contrast with the logo for ADA compliance as well.
- If it is necessary that the logo be reversed out of a multi-colored background or a photograph, it is important that the logo stands out clearly. Avoid the placement of the logo against backgrounds from which it cannot be clearly distinguished.
- The logotype may be black instead of green or white for cases where color is not available, such as a black and white newspaper ad.
- An on-brand graphic may be designed for special events, but it must be accompanied by the primary university logo or a unit signature elsewhere on the piece.
Contact Communications and University Relations if you are unsure about logo size, background or placement.
Signature System
Brand strength is increased when all units associate themselves with the university through a consistent logo system.
Communications and University Relations does not support the creation or use of custom logos for schools, departments, programs or offices that fall under the umbrella of the university. Instead, a logo should be created within the signature system.
Usage guidelines:
- Organizational units within SUNY Old Westbury should not create their own logos, word marks or other unique identifiers without consulting with Communications and University Relations.
- The approved identifier for offices, departments and the like consists of the primary university logo with the name of the unit set in the Century Gothic or Corbel under the logotype. University letterhead reflects this design. The Office of Communications and University Relations will adapt this design, upon request, for other placements and uses if proven necessary.
- Unit icons that do not feature the campus’ brand elements are acceptable for use by offices and departments in on-campus communications and as social media avatars.
- Multiple signatures should not be used in combination in a single publication. In the case where multiple units need recognition, use the university logo and identify the units by name in type only.
Other Official University Identifiers
In addition to the primary university logo and brandmark, SUNY Old Westbury has two additional official graphic identifiers with specific uses:
- The University Seal
- The Athletics Panther
No other graphic may identify SUNY Old Westbury, and each has a different use.
The university logo and official graphic identifiers may not be used in combination with one another, nor may any be incorporated into another logo.
University Seal
The SUNY Old Westbury seal indicates official academic sanction, while the logo represents the University’s image and visual identity.
The university seal is reserved for our most formal communication, which is defined by having as one of its primary goals the presentation or connotation of seriousness, officiousness, solemnity, reverence or scholarship. Programs for institutional events such as commencement, fall and honors convocations along with diplomas, certificates of recognition, and other official citations are examples of formal communication.
The seal is to be used only at the discretion of the Office of Communications and University Relations.

Athletics Panther – Spirit Marks
The current Panther Athletics branding materials were introduced in September 2024.
Two graphic identifiers from that collection are available to the campus to use as Spirit Marks.
Usage Guidelines
- These graphics can be used on stickers, T-shirts and other collateral to demonstrate school spirit.
- In most instances where a spirit element is used, you should also use the primary university logo elsewhere on the piece, but they should not be combined to display as a single element.
- Spirit elements may not be modified or recolored.
- Non-varsity sports and other clubs must receive approval of the Athletics Department to use the Athletics Panther. Any Student Association-recognized club sport that is also a varsity sport must use the word “club” before the sport name (e.g., “Men’s Club Soccer”).
All marks can be obtained via the Brand Asset Download Center. The download center can be accessed through the “Communications” card within the Service Hub available in the ConnectOW portal.
