College Readiness Programs

Enabling students to accelerate their high school studies while earning college credit is recognized nationally as a means of increasing high school graduation as well as college completion rates among disadvantaged students.  

To foster improvement in these areas in the Long Island and metropolitan New York marketplace, SUNY Old Westbury has expanded its efforts to integrate its expertise into the schools and organizations serving the surrounding communities.

Smart Scholars for Roosevelt High School Students

Providing credit-bearing college courses for students during their high school years. 

Introduction

High Schools partner with the ECHS program at SUNY Old Westbury, where students apply and earn transferable credits. Courses are taught in the student’s high school during normal school day hours by high school teachers who meet the minimum qualifications of SUNY Old Westbury’s faculty. These courses align with SUNY Old Westbury classes and are overseen by a faculty Content Coordinator to ensure the integrity of the program.

ECHS Tuition and Fees

Most classes at SUNY Old Westbury are four credits

Starting Fall 2026: Each course will be $300 per student

Course Areas:

  • Math: Algebra, Precalculus
  • Language: Spanish (Basic & Advanced)
  • Humanities: History, Composition, Literature
  • Social Sciences: Psychology, Gender Studies, Social Movements
  • Education: Foundations, Childhood Development
