Research involving humans as research subjects, conducted under the aegis of SUNY Old Westbury or conducted on the premises of SUNY Old Westbury, is subject to prior review and approval of a standing committee known as the Institutional Review Board or IRB. The IRB is established consistent with Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects in Research. IRBs have the authority to approve or require modifications in research activities that fall within their jurisdictions as specified by both the federal regulations and local institutional policy. IRB governance and IRB policy applies equally to faculty, staff, and student researchers alike.

All IRB applications and supplemental materials must be submitted by the published submission date in order to provide sufficient review time for the IRB committee.
