Counseling and Advising

Each student is assigned an EOP Professional Counselor who facilitates the student’s entrance into SUNY Old Westbury through EOP. Professional Counselors provide ongoing support and monitor each student’s overall progress. The EOP staff works in conjunction with all campus offices to provide students with information regarding college resources and services.

EOP staff assist lower –division students with planning their academic class schedule each semester and with completing the registration process. Upper division program students are required to meet with faculty in their declared major department for advising. Although EOP counselors play a different role for upper division students, overall academic support services are continued.

The EOP Professional Counselors are available to assist with a wide range of questions and concerns including:

  • Course selection
  • Study skills
  • Campus resources and activities
  • Majors and career exploration
  • Financial Aid and financial literacy
  • Adjustment to college life
  • Personal issues
  • Referrals
  • Graduate school planning

The EOP Professional Counselors provide services to EOP students in partnership with other student support areas of our University. These areas include, but are not limited to, the following areas: Office of Services for Students with Disabilities, First Year Experience, Counseling & Psychological Wellness Center, Career Planning & Development, Student Success Center, Math Redesign Lab, and Writing Center.
