You will make transitions from your first year to graduation. Here is what you expect in each phase:
First-Year Students
Welcome Class 2030!
All incoming First-Year students are assigned an advisor from the First-Year Experience Program (FYE).
First-Year Goals
- Familiarize yourself with Liberal Education requirements (i.e., Math and Writing proficiency and General Education requirements)
- Learn how to create a schedule and register for courses
- Access and review the degree planning tool: Degree Works
- Learn available support resources on campus
- Learn how to manage time and organize coursework
Sophomores
Your second year (or third semester) you are assigned an advisor from the Academic Planning Center.
Sophomore Year Goals:
- Choose and declare a major
- Create a degree plan (customized 8-semesters plan) with an advisor for that major
- Understand how to read Degree Works for outstanding requirements
- Master how to create a schedule and register for courses independently
- Master how to manage time and balance academic work and personal life

Juniors and Seniors
Starting in Fall 2026, Junior and Senior students will be assigned a faculty mentor within their major department. Faculty mentors will support students as they explore research and internship opportunities, prepare for careers and graduate study, and engage more deeply in their chosen field.
Academic advising services, including degree planning, registration guidance, and progress toward graduation, will continue to be provided by professional academic advisors who work in partnership with academic departments to help students stay on track and achieve their academic goals.
Junior and Senior Year Goals:
- Review Degree Works for outstanding requirements
- Visit Career Planning and Development
- Explore internships and research opportunities
- Reach out to faculty for mentorship
- Build relationships with faculty and maintain them
