Degree Type
3+3 Bachelor of Arts/Juris Doctor

Students can save one full year of tuition by earning a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Old Westbury and a law degree from University at Buffalo School of Law through the campuses’ collaborative 3+3 degree program.

The combined pathway allows students to complete their undergraduate education and law-degree training in six years of full-time study rather than the normally required seven years of study.

Enrollment in this combined pathway allows highly qualified SUNY Old Westbury students to work on a Juris Doctor (J.D.) at the University of Buffalo (UB) while completing their undergraduate bachelor of arts (B.A.) at SUNY Old Westbury.

Up to 30 credits of designated UB law school courses are incorporated into the student’s bachelor’s degree program and will count toward both the bachelor’s degree and the J.D.

The program is open to SUNY Old Westbury students majoring in:

Entering the Program

Admission into the combined pathway is highly selective. Matriculated undergraduate students should consult with their academic advisors no later than the end of their first (freshman) year or the first semester of their second (sophomore) year.

Students must complete all coursework required for the undergraduate degree by the completion of their third year of enrollment at the SUNY Old Westbury, including a minimum of 90 credits through residency, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or transfer credits.

Students in the combined pathway must apply to the UB law school during their junior year at SUNY Old Westbury. All UB law school admission requirements will apply. Eligibility requirements for entry into UB law school include:

  • A cumulative/overall GPA at Old Westbury of 3.50 or above.
  • An LSAT score at or above the median LSAT score for the School of Law's previous year's enrolled class (Class of 2027 median: 152)
    • or a GRE score at or above the 70th percentile on Verbal Reasoning and 40th percentile on Quantitative Reasoning (Class of 2027 medians: 161-Verbal Reasoning; 149-Quantitative Reasoning)

Students in the 3+3 program who achieve admission may be selected to receive merit-based scholarships from UB law.
