School of Education Professor Travels to Lebanon to Participate in Virtual Exchange Workshop

Professor Hashey

Assistant Professor of Exceptional Education Andrew Hashey recently participated in the SUNY Center for Collaborative Online International Learning (SUNY COIL)’s workshop at the American University of Technology (AUT) in Byblos, Lebanon. Hashey was among a group of SUNY faculty members that paired with professors from the Middle East/North Africa region to develop innovative, virtual international exchange opportunities for SUNY students and their peers from the partner institutions.

During his travels to Lebanon, Hashey learned best practices in the development, implementation, and assessment of virtual exchange programs. Together with Dr. Rhianna Rogers from Empire State College and AUT, Hashey will deliver their course module “Learning Effectively in a Digital Age” for Fall 2017 that will link his graduate education majors at Old Westbury with counterparts in Lebanon and Turkey.

The five-day workshop was part of the SUNY-wide program of outreach and virtual student exchange with universities across the Middle East/North Africa region, which was made possible by a grant from The Aspen Institute’s Stevens Initiative. The initiative is a multilateral public-private partnership designed as a lasting tribute to the legacy of U.S. Ambassador Christopher J. Stevens.

Dr. Hashey joined the School of Education at Old Westbury in 2015, following the completion of his doctoral studies at the University at Buffalo as an Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP)-funded scholar.
