Enrollment Management has primary responsibility for the development and coordination of a campus-wide plan to recruit and help students persist on to graduation.
Of equal importance are the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts in Enrollment Management that correctly position the University in a highly competitive market, while recognizing that student satisfaction and academic success are our ultimate goals.
SUNY OW's access mission is just as important now as it was when it was founded in 1965. It has matured as a regional institution of higher education that works to prepare its graduates to serve the world through their character and leadership. The mission serves as a guiding post for the University, and specifically the Enrollment Management Division at SUNY OW, which includes:
- Office of Admissions -
The Office of Admission has embraced the mission of to support diversity, equity and inclusion through several strategic student recruitment initiatives such as:
Student Recruitment: The Office of Admission staff routinely target high schools with diversity indexes of no less than 80 out of 100. Throughout the state of New York and specifically in Long Island, a dedicated admission counselor spends the majority of the time visiting high schools and attending regional fairs in the evening to ensure that families are part of the process. To ensure that adults are served, the office participates in career fairs and graduate and adult recruitment fairs in the evenings for greater reach to an ever-growing working adult population. Recruitment efforts may entail high school visits, college fairs, parent/student panel events, free application weeks, student interviews, special group visits, individual campus visits, on-campus events, and more.
Old Westbury Foundation Scholars: In the spring semester, the University updates its scholarship website which lists more than 25 scholarships aimed at students with diverse background. These DEI scholarships include the Anna Rosenberg Scholarship, the Meryl Elaine Scholarship, and the Faye Friedenberg Scholarship. The institution also participates in the Empire State Diversity Honors Scholarship Program.
Multicultural Admitted Student Engagement: From January through March, faculty and staff connect with multicultural students via check-in calls and through EOP connections. Enrollment Management staff also participate in connections with the Black Alumni Association members.
Test-Optional Admission: SUNY OW University is committed to providing support and improving access for prospective students. As such, first-year and transfer applicants for can apply with or without standardized test scores such as the SAT and the ACT. If applying with test scores, self-reported scores are accepted.
Support: Enrollment Management staff are available to support prospective students with any questions about the enrollment process. In addition to regular admissions counselors, the office is supported by the Director of International Admission, Marketing and Student Support. Together, they coordinate the multicultural recruitment efforts of the entire recruitment team of admission counselors and Panther Student Ambassadors. - Office of Financial Aid -
The Office of Financial Aid is available to answer any questions about the financial aid process, including available aid programs, completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and investing in a SUNY OW education. Students can estimate their cost to attend through the Net Price Calculator or contact their financial aid counselor with questions. More information about our financial aid staff can be found here. Financial aid counselors also serve the community by coordinating and presenting at a variety of events, including financial aid and FAFSA nights as well as financial literacy events.
To support student need, SUNY OW participates in the following financial aid programs:
- Federal Pell Grants: Federal Pell Grants are Federal financial aid available to undergraduate students who do not already have Bachelor’s degrees. Amounts can change yearly. The maximum Federal Pell Grant award is $6,895 for the 2022–2023 award year.
- Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (FSEOG): Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (S.E.O.G.) are available to undergraduates with exceptional need. Priority is given to Federal Pell grant recipients. Funds are limited and awarded to qualified students that meet established deadline date.
- NYS Excelsior Scholarship: The Excelsior Scholarship, in combination with other student financial aid programs, allows New York State residents to attend SUNY OW University tuition-free.
- SUNY Foundation Awards: The Old Westbury College Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to ensuring SUNY Old Westbury and its students excel. The Foundation offers scholarships based on a variety of DEI related activities, merit, financial need, community service and more. Most scholarships are awarded at the time of admission.

Office of International Services: The Office of International Services has embraced the mission of SUNY OW to support diversity, equity and inclusion through several strategic student recruitment initiatives. The Office plans cultural and social events to enrich students’ experiences in the United States and works collaboratively with various offices to ensure that each student is successful in his or her academic and professional endeavors. OIES coordinates many different activities with other student clubs and organizations on campus to make sure that our international students are learning beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, events that focus on the different aspects of various cultures are promoted or organized by the office to help our students learn more about their fellow students and local communities. Field trips to NYC, Philadelphia, or Washington DC are usually one of many exciting opportunities to explore the local neighborhoods or other regions near us.
