Graduate Admissions Agreements

The Office of Pre-Health Professions manages relationships with partner institutions to facilitate the entry of Old Westbury graduates into graduate programs through accelerated and other admissions agreements.

SUNY Downstate Partnerships

SUNY Old Westbury and SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University have standing agreements to support priority enrollment of Old Westbury graduates into key Downstate programs each year.  Under these agreements, Old Westbury students who meet the admissions standards and deadlines will be given priority enrollment consideration at SUNY Downstate in the following areas:

Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Fifteen (15) qualified graduates can be accepted per year who meet the eligibility requirements of the Accelerated BS Program:

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.3.
  • Meet all admissions criteria for the Accelerated BS degree in Nursing program at SUNY Downstate.  
  • Eligible applicants must be currently enrolled in SUNY Old Westbury as seniors or have graduated within five (5) years of matriculation. A bachelor's degree from SUNY Old Westbury is required.

Master of Medical Informatics

Five (5) qualified graduates can be accepted per year who meet the eligibility requirements for the Medical Informatics program at SUNY Downstate:

  • Bachelor's degree from SUNY Old Westbury
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Basic computer programming and statistics courses are highly recommended but not required for admissions

Bachelor of Science/Doctorate of Physical Therapy (BS/DPT)

Four (4) qualified graduates can be accepted per year who meet the eligibility requirements for the Physical Therapy (DPT) program at SUNY Downstate:

  • A minimum of 80 semester credits (please review policies for applying without a baccalaureate degree)
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Graduate Records Examination (G.R.E.) score report. Minimum scores of 150 for verbal and 150 for quantitative are preferred
  • A minimum of 50 hours of clinical experience in a Physical Therapy setting
  • A letter grade of "C" or better in each of the prerequisite courses

Master of Science Physician Assistant

Four (4) qualified graduates can be accepted per year who meet the eligibility requirements for the Physician Assistant program at SUNY Downstate: 

  • Bachelor's degree from SUNY Old Westbury
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • A minimum of 500 hours of health-related experience. Hours must be completed within five (5) years of your date of matriculation into the program
  • A letter grade of "B" or better in each of the prerequisite courses

Graduates of SUNY Old Westbury’s Bachelor of Science program in Public Health will receive priority consideration for admission into the program.

Eligibility requirements vary by program, with each requiring Old Westbury students to complete classes in biology, chemistry, psychology and other arts and sciences disciplines as appropriate. For the Physician Assistant and Nursing degree programs, students must have an undergraduate degree from Old Westbury before applying to SUNY Downstate. All Old Westbury students must also obtain a recommendation from the College’s Health Professions Advisory Committee. Stony Brook University Athletic Training, M.S. Partnership

SUNY Old Westbury and the Stony Brook University Master's in Athletic Training program have a standing agreement to support the enrollment of Old Westbury graduates into the Stony Brook University graduate program. 

Under this agreement, up to four SUNY Old Westbury graduates each year will receive guaranteed admission to the Stony Brook program if they meet the following requirements to apply: 

  • Currently enrolled as a senior at SUNY Old Westbury or graduated Old Westbury within the last 5 years
  • Completed, or be on course to complete, the required prerequisite courses
  • Earned a 3.0 minimum grade point average 
  • Completion of Athletic Training Program application

Required Course Prerequisites

Thirty-two (32) credits from prerequisite courses offered by the Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Physics, Mathematics and Psychology departments at Old Westbury are required for entry to the program.

About the Stony Brook University Master of Science Athletics Training Program

The athletic training program at Stony Brook University is housed in the School of Health Professions within Stony Brook Medicine and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Students who complete the requirements for the Master of Science degree in the Athletic Training program will be eligible to take the Board of Certification (BOC) Exam.
