The Psychological Foundations of Substance Use Microcredential will review the current population data, trends, mortality rates, and theories regarding addictions to recreational and prescription substances and the challenges that both mental health counselors and allied health care professionals face in treating patients. Students will develop a foundational understanding of SUDs as treatable psychological and medical conditions used to promote individualized recovery plans and preventing reoccurring symptoms. This micro-credential is ideal for students pursuing careers in psychology, social, work, counseling, healthcare, or public health and can be used towards their hours for a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).

Prerequisites: PY2010 (with a minimum grade of “C”); EMS.

Requirements Students are required to take 12 credits by completing the following group of courses with a grade of “B” or higher:
