
Andrew (Andy) O'Bannon (he/him), Assistant Professor, Physics, and Social Justice Fellow is a theoretical physicist working on string theory and conformal field theory, and on diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) in STEM. He obtained a BA in physics and creative writing from the Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore) in 2002, and a PhD in physics from the University of Washington (Seattle) in 2008. He then worked as a postdoc in Munich, Germany and in Cambridge and Oxford, in England. In 2015 he became a Royal Society University Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, in England. He has organized and led many DEI initiatives in the UK, including the 3rd workshop on string theory and gender, the 2021 UK conference for undergraduate women in physics, online bullying and harassment reporting tools, and more.
