Tablecloth?  Check.  Cloth napkins?  Check.  Fresh flowers? Check. Great food?  Check.  Interesting company?  Check.

Each of those items and more were on the menu when a select group of SUNY Old Westbury students participated in the Supper Club, an initiative by the campus’ dining provider, Chartwells, to unite students for memorable meals that blend sophistication with nostalgia and foster engaging conversations and meaningful connections.

The spring 2025 Supper Club was held on April 23, 2025, in the campus’ food hall. The fare for the evening offered a “surf and turf” vibe with steak and lobster prepared by the Chartwells team. Chartwells associates served as hosts for this elevated dining experience.

“A section of our Food Hall was transformed to offer a unique dining ambiance that promoted conversation and interaction for all who attended,” said Randall M-J Edouard, vice president for student affairs. “This was a great way to introduce our students to a more formal setting, where they could spend time together, learn from each other, and grow the relationships among themselves.”

Students also were joined by University President Timothy Sams and other members of his leadership team for the event.

According to Chartwells, research shows Gen Z is the most nostalgic generation of all, craving the cultural phenomena and trends of the past in the modern day. This desire, coupled with student feedback and insights, brought the Supper Club concept to life.

Like the “surf and turf” Supper Club, future events will be customized to the unique needs and preferences of the campus community.

“Our commitment to enhancing student life goes beyond providing nourishment; it’s about creating memorable moments of joy and connection through food,” says Eva Wojtalewski, CEO of Chartwells Higher Education, about the Supper Club concept. “Supper Club not only elevates dining experiences in new and unique ways but also celebrates the communal spirit of college life, bringing students together to savor delicious food, experience something fresh yet nostalgic, and forge lasting friendships.”
