For the second consecutive year, the State University of New York at Old Westbury is among the leading colleges in the country for social mobility according to the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings. SUNY Old Westbury ranked seventh in the category among all regional universities in the Northeast.
Now in its second year, the social mobility ranking measures the size of the student population receiving Pell Grants and how well universities performed in graduating those individuals. According to U.S. News, most students who receive Pell Grants come from households with family incomes under $50,000 annually.
"SUNY Old Westbury’s long-standing mission has been to provide access to high-quality college instruction to students for whom a college education might otherwise be unavailable, unaffordable and unreachable,” said Teresa A. Miller, the College’s officer-in-charge. “Vital in the growth and well-being of our region, state and nation is empowering people from all segments of society through education.
