The State University of New York College at Old Westbury was recently named as one of the “Top 50 Colleges for Diversity” nationwide by Study.com. The ranking was awarded based on factors including ethnic makeup of the student and faculty populations, graduation rates among ethnically diverse students, and programs offered that promote racial and cultural diversity.

“It is our ongoing mission to create an inclusive campus and learning environment that encourages diversity in thought and leadership,” said Usama Shaikh, vice president for student affairs and chief diversity officer. “This most recent ranking highlights the impacts of that goal, and the importance of our efforts in cultivating an understanding of cultural differences, and awareness of others perspectives.”

According to Study.com, hundreds of institutions in the United States were analyzed for the report, and SUNY Old Westbury was selected based on its unique offerings and characteristics. The website, which was founded in 2002, is an online education platform that offers resources and services to students researching educational degrees, careers and colleges with 40 million visitors a month.  The full rankings report is available at Study.com.

The College has previously been acknowledged for its commitment to diversity by U.S. News and World Report, INSIGHT into Diversity magazine, and USA Today’s CollegeFactual.com.
