Psychology Professor and Department Chair Dr. Runi Mukherji Ratnam has been selected as an honoree in the 2018 Long Island Power Women in Business Awards and Networking Event. Hosted by Long Island Press, the ceremony and networking event is on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Leonard’s Palazzo.

The Long Island Power Women in Business Awards and Networking event acknowledges women as business, community, cultural, political, civic, and religious leaders. Mukherji is being honored for her contributions in education and the community, as she serves as a consultant to the Center for Study of Asian American Health at New York University, and as a DREAM Coalition partner. She is on the board of the South Asian Council for Social Services, and has been a past president and the agency's first Director of Research and Assessment. SACSS provides social services for new South Asian immigrants.

This is not the first time Mukherji has been recognized for her hard work and service. She was recently honored with an “Indian Republic Award” on the 69th anniversary of Indian Republic Day in January. She was one of the co-founders of the Young Indian Culture Group almost 20 years ago, which now includes 400 students that participate in Indian language, literature, history, and fine arts. In addition to her service to the College, Mukherji's continued research interests involve the disparities in immigrant health.
