SUNY Old Westbury’s long-standing commitment to serving students of Hispanic heritage along with its mission-based focus on equity and social justice earned the campus recognition in two of the latest rankings released by Washington Monthly.
In the publication’s second annual “America’s Best Hispanic-Serving Colleges,” created in collaboration with the nonprofit Excelencia in Education, SUNY Old Westbury was the only State University of New York institution included and ranked #92 in the national review of four-year colleges.
SUNY Old Westbury also ranked #84 in Washington Monthly’s Best Colleges for Your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars” category for the Northeast.
“These recognitions show our commitment to our mission and strategic plan,” said President Timothy E. Sams. “We are a university of opportunity and quality and a place where everyone can transform their futures into the life and careers they want for themselves.”
For the “America’s Best Hispanic-Service Colleges” honor, the analysis combined the accessibility focus of Washington Monthly’s annual college rankings with the knowledge Excelencia has built over more than two decades of studying the performance of Hispanic students and the schools that serve them.
Nearly 400 institutions in the region were reviewed for the “Best College for Your Tuition (and Tax) Dollars” study. The rankings are based on their contribution to the public good in four broad categories: access, affordability, outcomes, and promoting public service.
