The B.S. in Biological Sciences provides a comprehensive education with the goal of training the next generation of biological researchers, health professionals, educators, and the scientific workforce.

Upon completion of their degree, graduates will have an interdisciplinary training in cell and molecular biology, organismic biology, ecology, and evolutionary biology with a strong background in mathematics, chemistry and physics that will prepare them to solve the major global problems that threaten our local communities, human health, and the planet.

The B.S. degree program is the recommended program for students who plan to pursue a graduate degree. Students interested in teaching Biology should refer to the adolescence education programmatic and certification requirements found via the School of Education.

The Curriculum

This rigorous curriculum in the B.S. in Biological Sciences provides a strong foundation for careers in medicine, research, biotechnology, and graduate study. Students begin with introductory biosciences and laboratories, then build expertise through coursework in chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, and calculus. 

Advanced study spans the full spectrum of biological sciences, including cellular and molecular biology, genetics, physiology, evolution, ecology, developmental biology, and bioinformatics. Students select upper-level electives to explore specialized interests such as microbiology, immunology, neurobiology, pharmacology, cancer biology, and research. 

The program culminates in a senior seminar that integrates scientific knowledge and critical thinking. With extensive laboratory experience and opportunities for advanced research, the curriculum equips students with the analytical, quantitative, and scientific skills needed to understand life from the molecular level to entire ecosystems.
