This program is designed for candidates who already have a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and are seeking to expand their portfolio of skills.

Applicants who have undergraduate degrees in other disciplines but have completed the required foundation courses in accounting may also apply.

Admission Requirements

Candidates wishing to enter the Advanced Certificate Program must meet the following conditions as determined by the program coordinator:

  1. Possess an approved Bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent) from an accredited college or university.
  2. If the degree is not in Accounting, then have completed 21 credits in accounting equivalent to: BU3502, BU3511, BU4500, BU4510, BU4570, BU4590, BU5505, BU5525, BU5540, and BU5550, plus 3 credits in Statistics equivalent to MA2000.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to successfully pursue graduate study by having an undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.

Certificate Requirements

Students must consult with an advisor before starting their certificate program.

During their first semester, matriculated students are required to plan their program with the advisor. All students must complete the curriculum described in this catalog with at least a 3.0 GPA. SUNY Old Westbury is an accredited NYS CPE sponsor. Candidates who have already earned a CPA can use these courses to fulfill their continuing professional education (CPE) requirements.
