The Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Center continues its "Gender Talks" series with "Women's Friendships: The Long View," presented by Dr. Hedva Lewittes.

Professor Emerita of Psychology and Education, Dr. Lewittes recently retired from SUNY Old Westbury. Her essay, “In Transition, Not Seeking for Now”, appeared in Gray Love, Stories about Dating and New Relationships After 60, published in January 2023 by Rutgers University Press. She worked on the 2022 election in Nassau County Congressional District #3 as a member of Bend the Arc, a progressive Jewish Action group. She continues to enjoy her daughter and grandsons and her friendships. At the College, an educator first and foremost, Prof. Lewittes felt privileged to teach diverse students. Her courses included Child and Adolescent Development, the Psychology of Adulthood and Aging, Introduction to Mindfulness and Feminist Psychology. She authored articles about intentional learning, critical thinking, and women’s friendships and identity development. She was Director of General Education and Academic Assessment.
