The University Police Department of the State University of New York at Old Westbury held an installation ceremony on December 6, 2023 as it added three new police officers to its team.

Joining the SUNY Old Westbury department are Jeffrey Martin of Hicksville, New York; Cristian Mayorga of Coram, New York; and Michael Tamburino of Seaford, New York.

During the installation ceremony, the officers were sworn in by University President Timothy E. Sams and were provided their new badges by Interim Chief  Roberto Caban. Prior to joining SUNY Old Westbury, each of the officers served as members of the New York City Police Department.

“Having officers Martin, Mayorga and Tamburino join our team will add great depth and experience to our department,” said Caban. “It allows us to add skilled law enforcement professionals and helps us ensure the SUNY Old Westbury University Police Department is continually operating at the highest level of efficiency, providing the students and the campus community with best protection and services possible.”

The new officers join the campus’ University Police Department, which is a fully sworn police department with the authority to investigate and enforce all laws and regulations. The campus’ University Police Department is tasked with maintaining a secure campus and insuring a safe and advantageous environment for learning and community socialization.
