CREAR (College Readiness, Achievement and Retention) Futuros, which means “To Create Futures” in Spanish, is a peer-mentor based initiative designed to improve student success at SUNY Old Westbury. CREAR mentees will be paired with one of four knowledgeable and highly trained peer mentors who will introduce them to campus resources and offer insight on how to make the most out of their Old Westbury experience.
CREAR Futuros is a national program powered by Hispanic Federation. CREAR is a program with a national scope, across campuses in Florida, Illinois, California, and more! It can be part of this larger network across campuses nationwide.
Participating in CREAR can lead to expanded opportunities from the Hispanic Federation! Mentees in the past have attended Yankee games, a small gathering with a singer at the Apple Store, two mentors have been featured in a photoshoot for Macy's celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, received scholarships, and more!

What are my mentee responsibilities?
- 1 year commitment (September through May)
- Engage in communications with your mentor
- Attend monthly in-person/virtual trainings/webinars
- Attend bi-weekly one-on-one in-person/virtual meetings with your mentor
