One graduate, five questions, go…
How did your education prepare you for what you are doing today?
As a movie producer, I got my basic training of camera operation, script writing, audience analysis and editing from investigative reporting class. I never got anything so direct and in bulk anywhere else. Those skills are still handy for me today. In addition to that, there was a class called mass persuasion and propaganda that really helped me to know the truth of attracting and taking care of a large audience. Plus, the culture diversity in ow really helped me a lot when I travel to different parts of the world to produce. It taught me to know and cherish who I really am so I can respect, fight and cooperate with others.
What is your greatest professional accomplishment or recent professional accomplishment to date?
One of my films was selected as the official China entry for the 88th Oscars for the best feature in foreign language. Most recently, I have a film with Christoph Waltz and Lucy Liu selected as the opening night film of Newport Beach film festival.
What programs do you support at SUNY Old Westbury, and why?
The alumni affairs office. I attended OW as an international student. It’s my first step in this country. I still type in 11568 at gas stations when they as for my postcode.
Do you have advice for current students?
Try to make more friends from different culture backgrounds and share yours with other. This is the time nobody knows how to hide anything. To know a different culture is like having an extra brain.
What is your favorite memory and/or spot on campus?
The food. Believe it or not. I grew taller from buffet at the café.
