This collaborative program allows select high school graduates to enter SUNY Old Westbury’s BS/DO Program as first-year students, where they can earn a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Biological Sciences and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree in only 7 years.

Students spend the first 3 years at SUNY Old Westbury working towards their undergraduate Biological Sciences degree. After meeting certain minimum requirements, they may then be granted acceptance into New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine where they spend the next 4 years training to become physicians.
Requirements
Students accepted into the program are assured admission to the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine provided that they:
- Maintain a minimum 3.50 grade point average at SUNY Old Westbury
- Earn adequate scores on the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT), and
- Receive approval from NYITCOM faculty following an interview to be conducted during the third year of the program.
Students must also complete the regular pre-medical science courses within the first three years. Matriculation at NYITCOM will occur in the fourth post-high school year.
Career Outlook for Physicians
The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 4% employment growth for physicians between 2023 and 2033.
In that period, an estimated 23,600 jobs are expected to become available each year on average.

The third year NYITCOM student physician is expected to complete a set of mandatory clinical workshops:

- Pediatrics – 6 weeks
- Psychiatry – 6 weeks
- Surgery – 12 weeks
Year 4
Fourth year student physicians at NYITCOM complete a set of clinical clerkships including:
- 2 Sub-Internships for 4 weeks each in Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, ObGyn, Psychiatry or Family Medicine
- Emergency Medicine for 4 weeks
- Radiology for 4 weeks
- A Preceptorship with a Board certified DO who has completed an Osteopathic Internship or Ambulatory Medicine in a NYITCOM approved clinical site in General Medicine, Pediatrics or Family Practice
- 2 electives of 4 weeks each at a NYITCOM approved clinical site in Medicine/Pediatrics and Surgery/ObGyn
- 3 electives of 4 weeks each at any NYITCOM approved site in any NYITCOM approved discipline
