“What started as a path to teaching became a journey through culture, history, and public service—thanks to the MALS program at Old Westbury.”
Degree: M.A. in Liberal Studies (MALS)
Current Role: Citizens Advocate, Town of Huntington
My Story:
Choosing a path in college is never easy. I’ve always had a deep love for history and knew I wanted to turn that passion into a career, though I wasn’t sure what form it would take. After earning my B.A. in History from SUNY Old Westbury and beginning my M.A. in Education, I realized that teaching wasn’t quite the right fit.
So, I transferred into the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) program, where I could focus on what truly inspires me—history, the arts, culture, and museum studies. It was a turning point that helped me reconnect with why I fell in love with history in the first place.
The additional time I spent exploring different fields of study strengthened my cultural awareness and led to an internship with a historical society—an experience that opened many doors for me professionally. At SUNY Old Westbury, I didn’t just study history—I learned how to shape my own.
