"SUNY Old Westbury strengthened my commitment to justice, equity, and belonging in educational spaces, and made me the teacher I am today."
Degree: M.S. in Adolescence Education: English
Current Role: English Teacher, Middle School in Westchester County
My Story:
I achieved my goal of becoming a middle school English teacher, dedicated to making a difference in my students’ lives. My time at SUNY Old Westbury helped establish the foundation for my enduring commitment to education and shaped the educator I have become—and continue to be.
I was proud to earn the 2023 National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Outstanding Middle Level Educator Award.
My forthcoming book, Ditching Weight Stigma and Anti-Fat Bias at School: Big and Small Equity Fixes for Educators (Routledge), will be released in March 2026, exploring practical ways educators can create more inclusive classrooms—helping every student feel seen, respected, and empowered to learn.
