Since being chartered in 1965, SUNY Old Westbury has been an institution whose central focus included serving those students who, in some cases, might not have the opportunity to attend college -- whether due to their upbringing and background or a lack of belief in their own abilities.

Given recent changes in law following decisions of the U.S. Supreme Court, the success of SUNY Old Westbury becomes even more important as a window into how higher education institutions can succeed in attracting and serving widely diverse student bodies. SUNY Old Westbury has across its history served dynamic, incredibly diverse student bodies without using factors including race and income as admissions criteria.

"SUNY Old Westbury: A Legacy of Inclusion" will focus on the changes required due to recent court decisions and on the history of SUNY Old Westbury, which in many ways has the campus "ahead of the curve."

Participating in the event will be:

  • SUNY Chancellor John King
  • New York State Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre
  • SUNY Senior Vice Chancellor for Legal Affairs & General Counsel Kapil Longani.
  • Students and alumni of SUNY Old Westbury.

University President Timothy Sams will host and moderate the discussion.

This event is free to attend but pre-registration is required.
