Ask Every Student and CALL Changemaker Fellowship

Fellowship Guidelines

Overview -   This fellowship is a collaboration between SUNY Old Westbury and Ask Every Student. Community Changemaker Fellows will empower those students that are passionate about creating positive change and furthering their academic interests and/or career development during the Fall semester. Old Westbury students can play a critical role in strengthening our democracy today and for the future. Fellows will gain hands-on experience by engaging in important community issues, becoming well informed translating into civic action and engagement. Fellows will utilize problem-solving skills, and communication to bring about change, and to empower others to be the change our society needs to thrive.  Fellows will assist with on campus voter registration, presentations, engagement strategies and peer to peer training.  

 Student Eligibility Requirements

  1. Be currently enrolled as a sophomore at SUNY Old Westbury.
  2. Be in good academic standing.
  3. Have a flexible schedule enabling you to complete all requirements of fellowship.

Application Submission Process

Applicants must complete the Ask Every Student and CALL Community Changemaker Fellowship Application via the CALL webpage or emailed application.

Fellowship Award Amount –   

Fellows will receive $ 1,000 for completed fellowship over 10 weeks during the Fall semester. Hours will be determined.

Professional Development Opportunities -

Fellows will participate in professional development activities. These may include workshops on advocacy, policy, interpersonal skill development, soft and hard skills development, and leadership.  You will gain transferrable skills and increase potential for future success while gaining a competitive edge in the job market. Fellows will have the opportunity to build meaningful connections with like-minded peers and a diverse community expanding your personal and professional network and harnessing your passions to make tangible impact on campus and beyond.  

Fellows will -  

  1. Participate and assist on campus student registration efforts through tabling, social media and other creative outlets.
  2. Participate in trainings to present to First Year classes on student voting registration initiatives. These classroom visits will be done in pairs and will be not more than 5 minutes in nature.
  3. Engage in brief weekly check-ins with advisor over email, providing updates, questions etc.  
  4. Submit a final reflection on their experience as a 1-page paper.  
  5. Present informally to a cohort of their peers at the fellowship's end.

Fellowship funds will be disbursed first-serve, qualifications and subject to available funds.    

Selection Process: a committee will review applications and evaluate.
