Evan Rufrano '18 (Politics, Economics and Law)

Assistant District Attorney, New York County District Attorney's Office

How did your education prepare you for what you are doing today?

In a time when higher education must prove it’s worth, SUNY Old Westbury does just that through its Community Action Learning and Leadership program. I benefitted from it by gaining hands on legislative experience drafting local laws and ordinances for the Nassau County Legislature.

What is your greatest professional accomplishment or recent professional accomplishment to date?

As an Assistant District Attorney, I have the distinguished honor to represent the People of the State of New York. Former President Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III told me that "there's no better feeling than putting your passion into practice" and I am glad to report that I get to do just that - serving justice each and every day.

What programs do you support at SUNY Old Westbury, and why?

In addition to majoring in Politics, Economics, and Law, students can minor in industrial labor relations. The concentration provides access to field experts in the most engaging and practical way.

Do you have advice for current students?

My advice is inspired through a conversation I had with Dr. Lee Blackstone. Find your formula for success, there's no one path forward and sometimes that path takes you backwards, but if you got grit, you can achieve it all.

What is your favorite memory of your time on campus?

My favorite memory of my undergraduate career was seeing the creation of the Panther Pantry which strives to provide access to food and other necessities for those in need.
