Dr. Dorothy A. Escribano, SUNY Old Westbury interim provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, has announced the promotion of Dr. Antonia DiGregorio to become dean of the library.

Dr. DiGregorio has been a member of the SUNY Old Westbury community and its library team since 2008 and has been director of library services since 2017.

“Under her leadership, our Campus Library has grown its resources and technologies and serves as a vital research space,” said Dr. Escribano. “This promotion reflects the important role the Library will play in the evolving needs and objectives of our University and more accurately reflects the scope and significance of Antonia’s responsibilities.”

As library dean, Dr. DiGregorio will continue developing and innovating services that are critical to the success of students, faculty and the University.

“I am excited to continue with the work we are doing to support our campus,” said Dr. DiGregorio.

The SUNY Old Westbury Library supports the university’s mission by providing resources and services to meet the academic and technology needs of its students and faculty. Located in the Campus Center, the three-story facility has incorporated both technology and academic support services in its transformation to the campus' learning commons. Equipped with high-speed wired and wireless networks, this technology-rich space houses general purpose and specialty labs and a range of software applications. Under one roof, students are able to retrieve information, write papers, and create presentations in a collaborative environment. Serving as a gateway to the world of resources beyond the library’s walls, the library web site provides access to a wide variety of electronic sources, including encyclopedias, dictionaries, periodical indexes, and full text databases of magazine, newspaper, and journal articles.

During her tenure on campus, Dr. DiGregorio has served the Library while overseeing the circulation and Interlibrary Loan departments. Prior to joining Old Westbury, she served as director of information literacy and was an assistant professor at Five Towns College Library.

A resident of South Hempstead, New York, Dr. DiGregorio holds a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from Hofstra University, a master’s in library and information science from Pratt Institute and a Ph.D. in educational/instructional technology from Northcentral University.
