Admissions

For Adolescence Education Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) Applicants:

  • Submission of scores on the GRE (Graduate Record Examination).
  • B.A. or B.S. in the content area of study (Biology, Chemistry, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Spanish).  Each program has requirements relating to specific undergraduate courses that must be taken before entry so be sure to review the specific admissions page for the program in which you have interest. 
  • A cumulative and major undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a scale of 4) or the equivalent.
  • Two letters of recommendation, one from an academic source.
  • An admissions essay.
  • International students must present additional testing and documentation as part of the College's International Admissions Requirements, including TOEFL requirements, IELTS exam results, and document evaluations by ECE or WES.

For Adolescence Education Master of Science (M.S.) applicants:

  • Initial or provisional certification in Adolescence Education.
  • Submission of scores on the CST (Content Specialty Test) and GRE (Graduate Record Examination).
  • B.A. or B.S. in the content area of study (Biology, Chemistry, English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Spanish).  Each program has requirements relating to specific undergraduate courses that must be taken before entry so be sure to review the specific admissions page for the program in which you have interest. 
  • A cumulative and major undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a scale of 4) or the equivalent.
  • Two letters of recommendation, one from an academic source.
  • An admissions essay.

For Literacy Education Master of Science (M.S.) applicants:

NOTE: Program accepts applications for fall semester entry only) 
  • Initial or provisional certification in another discipline.
  • Submission of Graduate Admissions Application and non-refundable application fee. 
  • Submission of results from the GRE.
  • Provide evidence of the completion of either an undergraduate or graduate degree in Education, or related field.
  • Have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a scale of 4) or the equivalent, in the highest earned degree.
  • Submission of two (2) letters of recommendation, at least one from an academic source.
  • An admissions essay. 
  • International students must present additional testing and documentation as part of the College's International Admissions Requirements, including TOEFL requirements, IELTS exam results, and document evaluations by ECE or WES.

How to Apply

  • For Fall 2017 entry, the recommended application deadline is June 15, 2017.
  • For Spring 2018 entry, the recommended application deadline is November 15, 2017.  

Space is filled on a first-come, first-served basis; applications are accepted until such time as space is no longer available. Student can apply using the SUNY Old Westbury Online Graduate Admissions Application 

This application can be saved and filled out in stages.  Upon completion of the online form a confirmation page will appear with instructions for submitting your signature and application payment.  A $50 application fee must be submitted on-line to complete the admission process.  The remaining portions of the application (reference letters, transcripts and test scores) should be mailed directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions at the following address:

Tuition & Fees

As many students pursue graduate studies alongside their employment and other responsibilities, the cost of the program varies depending on how quickly they complete their coursework.  The cost of graduate tuition for 2018-19 is $462 per credit for New York State Residents and $944 per credit for non-residents.*
