Welcome to your Sophomore Year!  The Sophomore year is a pivotal time at Old Westbury as you give thought to and make decisions about your academic plans and career choices. The Sophomore Jump Program is designed to transition students through their sophomore year and into their major department by their junior year.  We want our Sophomores to excel by providing opportunities and support for your academic and professional success.  

Sophomore Jump Goals for Students:

  • Develop academic, social and career purpose.
  • Discover and utilize campus resources.
  • Develop personal and professional resources.
  • Explore career options.
  • Acquire and apply skills for success.

How to Join Sophomore Jump

Sophomore Jump is a yearlong program designed to help second-year students finalize their major decision and put together an action plan for graduation and beyond. Sophomore Jump offers flexible ways for students to get involved. Consider signing-up for one of our more exclusive programs for second-year students below! 

Sophomore Jump certificate

The Sophomore Jump certificate is an excellent and easy way to prepare for your junior year. Students on the certificate track will engage in academic degree planning, career exploration and planning, professional skill development, and financial literacy!  

Completion of the certificate involves four components: 

  • Attend 4 Sophomore Jump workshops/events throughout the 2021-2022 academic year 

  • Attend a Degree Planning Workshop + Complete your academic degree plan and submit to Sophomore Jump Coordinator 

  • Complete the financial literacy track 

  • Meet with a career counselor in Career Planning & Development

Faculty-Sophomore Mentor Program

Students in this program are partnered with a faculty mentor for their second year. This is an excellent opportunity to start building your personal support system at SUNY OW! 

With guidance from a faculty mentor, students can:

  • Set academic and career goals
  • Develop a plan for their junior year
  • Collaborate on a academic, professional, or community service project
  • Receive individualized support and guidance

Sophomore Shadow

Sophomore Shadow is a competitive, career -oriented experience program exclusively for sophomores!  

Gain insight and get advice on your career path from working professionals and start building your professional network! Students will undergo professional skill development and engage in career conversations with various professionals related to their career interests.  

Applications are now open for the Fall 2021- Spring 2022 year. Deadline is  October 17th, 11:59 PM.
