Psychology Professor Member of Research Team Awarded NIMH Grant to Study Major Depression Disorders

Psychology professor and neuroscience researcher Lorenz Neuwirth teams with colleagues at Richmond and UPenn for three-year study of Major Depression Disorders that have impacted more than 16 million people within the United States since 2016.

Three Professors and 17 Students Conduct Research and Present at International Taurine Conference

Three SUNY Old Westbury professors recently gave presentations on taurine neuroprotection of environmental lead exposure at the 21st International Taurine Annual Meeting in China. The collaborative research by faculty supported 17 undergraduate research students across a 3-year period.

2nd Annual College “Brain Awareness Week” March 6th-9th, 2017

SUNY Old Westbury will be hosting its 2 nd annual college “Brain Awareness Week” event on campus. We will have one location where student Brain Game competitions will take place Monday through Thursday from 9am- 2pm. Students from the Psychology Dept. will be setting up these competitions for student participation and educational training. Each class period the student with the highest score, best accuracy, and/or fastest reaction time will be given a prize. There are also free giveaways at the tables.

Dr. Neuwirth Awarded FUN Grant

Dr. Lorenz S. Neuwirth from the Psychology Department and the SUNY Neuroscience Research Institute has been awarded one of six 2016 Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience (FUN) Equipment loan grants.  The annual FUN grant program is highly competitive as it is provided to faculty to stimulate their research programs for a 2-year period, while creating opportunities for student applied research skill-based learning beyond the classroom.  Dr.

Participate in the 2016 Brain Awareness Video Contest

Create an educational video about the brain for the 2016 Brain Awareness Video Contest. Demonstrate a neuroscience concept through animation, song, skit, or any other creative approach. Get your community excited about neuroscience and put your creative skills to work — you could win $1,000 and a trip to Neuroscience 2016! Anyone can enter, and you can work on a video by yourself or in a group.
