48th Commencement Exercises Celebrate Largest Class in College History

SUNY College at Old Westbury celebrated the successes of the largest graduating class in its history as more than 1,000 degrees were awarded during Commencement Ceremonies held Sunday, May 18, 2014.  In all, the College awarded 82 master’s degrees and 987 bachelor’s degrees to students who had completed their studies in its School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business or School of Education.

SUNY College at Old Westbury senior JoAnna Kettell was recently named by State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher as a 2013-14 SUNY Chancellor's Scholar Athlete.  The award recognizes a combination of academic excellence and outstanding athletic achievement at the Division I, Division III and NJCAA levels and is one of the most selective and prestigious awards bestowed by SUNY.

Iowa State University debuts new exhibit by Visual Arts' Mac Adams

Editor's note:  Since the original posting of this article, Iowa State University's Christian Petersen Art Museum has announced that Professor Adams' exhibit will be extended until August 1, 2014.

Distinguished Teaching Professor of Visual Arts Mac Adams has his latest exhibition, “Illuminating Perception: Explorations of Light and Shadow by Mac Adams,” at the Christian Petersen Art Museum in Morrill Hall, on Iowa State University’s central campus in Ames.  

Sociology Professor’s Latest Chapter included in Music History Collection

Lee Robert Blackstone, an associate professor of sociology at SUNY College at Old Westbury, is among the academic and experts who have penned chapters for "Music Sociology: Examining the Role of Music in Social Life," a recent book that explores 16 musical genres and seeks to demonstrate that music everywhere reflects social values, organizational processes, meanings, and individual identity.
