Q:  Do I have to attend the Orientation program?

A:  Yes, the orientation program is an important key to your success here at Old Westbury.  Statistics show that students who attend orientation are more likely to graduate on-time, and adjust to the campus much better than students who do not attend.  Orientation is also where you will meet fellow classmates and your academic advisor, who will register you for your classes!

Q:  Is there a fee for Orientation?

A:  Yes, the fee for New Student Orientation is $170.00 (There is an additional fee of $30 per person for each parent/guardian who attends).  The Transfer Orientation fee is $50.00.  The fee will be placed onto your account after you attend your session.

Q:  How do I find my Student ID number and Username?

A:  You student ID number and username will be found in your admissions letter/email.

Q:  What should I bring? 

A:  All students should bring:

  • A photo identification card (Driver’s License, Passport, State Photo ID or High School ID) – you will need this to get your Old Westbury student ID.
  • A copy of your high school or community college diploma  - you will turn this in at check-in, if you have not already mailed this to Admissions.
  • Your Old Westbury e-mail address  - you will need this to log onto a computer and register for classes.

You will also need to bring the following with you to your academic advising meeting (do not turn this information in to any office).

  • An unofficial copy of your transcript that includes courses for which you are currently enrolled
  • An unofficial copy of college transcripts for all college courses you have taken
  • College transcript for credit-bearing courses taken while in high school
  • Documentation of Advanced Placement courses taken and exam scores (if available)
  • Documentation  of International Baccalaureate courses taken and exam scores (if available)
  • Regents exam scores

*For Freshmen, additional information on items you must bring with you, can be found in your confirmation email, which is sent to your Old Westbury email only.

Q:  How will I know whether or not I got my choice of orientation session?

A:  Want to know ASAP?  Please continue to check your Old Westbury email. Your log-on information will be in your admissions packet. We also give you detailed instructions when we contact you via the email you indicate on your Admission’s application.

Q:  Why haven't I received information about orientation yet?/When will I receive information/materials about Orientation?

Summer Orientation

Summer materials for both transfers and freshmen will be emailed out on a rolling basis, based upon your acceptance into the college.  Our email drops usually begin on or about April 1st from the email address, orientation [at] oldwestbury.edu. Please note this email will go to the email address you provided in your Admissions application as well as your new Old Westbury email account. Once you e-mail or fax back your registration form, expect to receive a confirmation via your Old Westbury email address ONLY within about 7 business days. 

Winter Orientation

Winter materials for both transfers and freshmen will be emailed out on a rolling basis, based upon your acceptance into the college.  Our email drops usually begin in October from the email address, orientation [at] oldwestbury.edu. Please note this email will go to the email address you provided in your Admissions application as well as your new Old Westbury email account. Once you e-mail or fax back your registration form, expect to receive a confirmation via your Old Westbury email address ONLY within about 7 business days. 

Q:  Can I bring guests with me to Orientation?

A:  During New Student Orientation program, there is a parent/guardian program that runs concurrently on day 1 of the session.  Parent/guardians, family members and guests are welcome to attend for an additional $30.00/person.  The Transfer Program is for students only and does not accommodate guests.

Q:  Can my guests and I get on-campus overnight accommodations?

A:  We do accommodate students overnight for the New Student Orientation program ONLY.  No other accommodations can be made at this time.

Q:  If I am commuting do I need to stay overnight?

A:  Yes, all students who attend New Student Orientation need to stay overnight.  We have activities that run late into the night and it is an important way for you to meet students you will be in classes with in a social setting.
