Student Wifi Configuration (Windows 7)

  • This article is intended to be used to configure Windows 7 Wireless Network Connections for Students
  • Students must have access to their OLDWESTBURY network accounts. (the way you would log into any computer on campus, or angel.)
  1. Click the Wireless Network Connection icon that is located in the system tray (to the right of the Start Menu on the Windows Taskbar)
  2. Click OPEN NETWORK AND SHARING.
  3. Click SET UP A NEW CONNECTION
  4. Click MANUALY CONNECT TO A WIRELESS NETWORK.
  5. For the network name type in OW_Student  (cap sensative)
  6. For security options select WPA2 ENTERPRISE
  7. Encryption type needs to be AES
  8. A new window will pop up with one option, CHANGE CONNECTION SETTINGS, click that
  9. Click the SECURITY tab.
  10. Click the SETTINGS button
  11. Uncheck the box at the top VALIDATE SERVER CERTIFICATE.
  12. Click the CONFIGURE button .
  13. Uncheck the only box listed.
  14. Click ok to close that window
  15. Click ok to close the next window
  16. Click ADVANCED SETTINGS botton. (if this button is not there skip steps 16-22) 
  17. Check the box SPECIFY AUTHENTICATION MODE
  18. From the drop down box right below that box select the option USER AUTHENTICATION.
  19. Click the botton to the right  SAVE CREDENTIALS
  20. In the window that pops up type in your username and password, it is the same way you log into computers on campus.
  21. Click ok to close that window.
  22. Click ok to close the ADVANCED SETTINGS window.
  23. click ok to close the OW_Student window.
  24. Close the last window.
  25. If you skipped step 16, you will now see a window pop up on the bottom right hand corner of computer, click that window and a log in screen will pop up.type in your username and password, it is the same way you log into computers on campus.
  26. Click the Wireless Network Connection icon that is located in the system tray (to the right of the Start Menu on the Windows Taskbar)
  27. The OW_Student should automatically connect, if not connect to it.
