Widely recognized poet Terrance Hayes will visit campus in recognition of Black History Month and offer a presentation of his works from his most recent book, “American Sonnets for my Past and Future Assassin,” as well as readings from his seven prior works.

His latest book was a finalist for the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award in Poetry and was named among the "New York Times Critics Top Books of 2018." Having won such prestigious honors as the National Book Award for poetry (2010) and a MacArthur Genius Fellowship (2014), his writings address issues of race, gender, politics, and music. He is currently a professor at New York University and serves as the Chancellor of the American Academy of Poets.

The reading will include a question-and-answer session and a book signing.
