Student Leaders Take Washington D.C.

Two SUNY Old Westbury students were recently in Washington D.C. lending their voices and advocating for causes important to higher education. Student Government Association President Jeanette Adelson participated in the AIPAC Policy Conference from March 25-28, 2017, while simultaneously across town, Politics, Economics and Law major Evan Rufrano was an invited member of the SUNY Students on the Hill fellowship on Capitol Hill.  

Sociology Professor’s Latest Chapter included in Music History Collection

Lee Robert Blackstone, an associate professor of sociology at SUNY College at Old Westbury, is among the academic and experts who have penned chapters for "Music Sociology: Examining the Role of Music in Social Life," a recent book that explores 16 musical genres and seeks to demonstrate that music everywhere reflects social values, organizational processes, meanings, and individual identity. 

Sociology Profs Featured at National Conference

The research findings and scholarly pursuits of two members of the SUNY College at Old Westbury Sociology faculty were featured during the 83rd Annual Meeting of the Eastern Sociological Society, held in Boston, Massachusetts.

Sociology Department Chair Lee Blackstone and Associate Professor Jacob Heller were among the presenters at the conference, which brings together hundreds of academic leaders from around the nation for discussions and workshops to promote excellence in sociological scholarship and instruction.
