The Research Foundation at SUNY Old Westbury assists interested faculty and staff members in the pursuit and management of grant and award opportunities. Our campus Research Foundation is organized into two separate offices, the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the Grants Management Office.
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is the pre-award unit that helps faculty locate sources of governmental and private funding, interpret program guidelines, develop narratives and budgets, and secure sources and pledges of cost-sharing. ORSP coordinates the completion and review of proposals to obtain appropriate administrative signatures, and ensures compliance with applicable regulations. ORSP also oversees Presidential Faculty Development Grant Competition.
In addition, ORSP assists as needed, in designing processes to protect intellectual properties and licensing new technologies that may result from grant-funded work. To meet our full range of responsibilities, ORSP must maintain close affiliation with both the College’s Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the College’s Division of Business & Finance.
The Office of Grants Management (GMO) is the post-award unit that works with service faculty and staff grant recipients in the effective and efficient administration of their Research Foundation accounts within the guidelines and regulations of Sponsors, Federal, New York State and the Research Foundation. GMO manages grant funds once an award is made. It monitors and processes expenditures according to the grant budget, prepares and maintains all grant records including payroll, personnel and patents.
GMO assures faculty project directors, the College, grant sponsors, and – importantly – the public of the sound management of grant funding to which we are committed.GMO assists grant recipients in securing personnel appointments on grants; the purchase of equipment and supplies; the payment of travel costs; and an array of other grant-related financial transactions. GMO plays a leadership role, in cooperation with project directors and The Research Foundation’s central office, in preparation of financial reporting documents including reports associated with personnel effort and cost-sharing.
