Information sources that are used in preparing a research paper must be cited. Listed below are Websites that explain how to cite information according to particular styles and formats. Print copies of the MLA and APA Handbooks are available at the Reference Desk. If you are unsure about which style to follow ask your professor for additional guidance.

American Psychological Association (APA) - most commonly used in psychology, education and other social sciences.

Modern Language Association (MLA) - most commonly used for literature, arts and other humanities.

Citation Styles for Research Papers - includes APA, MLA, Turabian, Chicago and AMA.

Columbia Guide to Online Style - offers guidance in citing electronic resources (e.g., Websites, Databases and E-journals).

Guide for Writing Research Papers - Based on Modern Language Association Documentation. Offers step by step approach to writing and preparing research papers.
