Message from the Chief At SUNY College at Old Westbury, the safety and well being of students, faculty, staff and visitors is of primary concern. In cooperation with many other campus departments, we have hundreds of people involved in keeping our campus safe and secure. However, a truly safe campus can only be achieved through the cooperation of the entire college community. The University Police Department at Old Westbury is committed on a daily basis to providing a safe and healthy educational environment for commuter and resident students, as well as the rest of the college community and guests of the college. Mobile 24-hour patrols of our 604 acre campus, along with foot patrols among our many buildings and numerous community policing initiatives, have made our campus one of the safest in the SUNY system. Working in conjunction with the Office of Student Affairs, Office of Residential Life, and the rest of the community, we strive to provide our students with a home away from home during their years at Old Westbury. The University Police Department has a long history of securing the Campus but realizes that observations and suggestions from the campus community help to identify threats to security and aid in the allocation of department resources. Many times the security concerns, observations and recommendations of community members can help format the response of the University Police Department and positively effect efficiency, expedience and our relationship with the college community we serve. If you are examining this web site as a prospective employee or student and have security questions concerning our college, I would be glad to discuss these issues with you and you should feel free to contact me with your concerns. All prospective or existing members of our campus community should feel free to contact me to discuss matters of safety and security at yanniellom@oldwestbury.edu or via phone at 516-876-3146. If there is an immediate need to speak to me and I am not in the office, notify the desk officer and they will get in touch with me immediately.
