Counseling Servies

Life at college can be exciting and challenging. Handling coursework, dealing with the pressures of work and school, living with roommates, socializing, and being exposed to new ideas and lifestyles can bring new friends, new lessons, new questions - and also, at times, new anxieties. Often, talking with someone about these issues can be helpful and even necessary for your mental and emotional health.

The mission of the Office of Counseling Services at SUNY College at Old Westbury is to promote personal growth and skill development. Counseling helps students obtain information and clarify personal characteristics and emotional concerns that may interfere with reaching personal effectiveness and making positive life changes.

To do this, Old Westbury offers a variety of professional counseling and mental health services and resources, including:

  • Individual Therapy
  • Relationship/Couples Therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Support Groups (topic focused)
  • Peer Counseling programs, with students helping students
  • Consultation and Assessment
  • Crisis Intervention
  • Emergency services and hotline information
  • Referral to outside services
  • Consultation and Outreach
  • Workshops for any College group
  • Confidentiality of all counseling sessions maintained
