Visitors Guide The Area The Arts, Theater & Music World-class opera singers, international ballet companies, classical recitals, and orchestral and chamber piece concerts can be found on any given day on the local cultural arts calendar. In addition, professional community theatrical productions featuring dramas, comedies and musicals, are performed in just about every corner of Nassau, including the Broadhollow Players who call Old Westbury's Maguire Theater home. Area Parks & Historic Sites At the same time, the local region is awash in history--from the site of key Revolutionary War battles to the airfield where Charles Lindbergh began his momentous nonstop flight to Paris. George Washington, Teddy Roosevelt, and William Floyd, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, among others, played an integral part in the vast historic landscape of the area. In Nassau County alone, there are numerous museums and historical sites dedicated to science, the arts, different cultures, Long Island's maritime trade and influential Americans. Among the most convenient museums to the Old Westbury campus is the Nassau County Museum of Art, located in Roslyn. Shopping & Entertainment A drive a bit further south into Garden City will bring you to Roosevelt field - among the largest shopping malls in America. Roosevelt Field is home to some of the best shopping around, with Bloomingdale's, JCPenney, Stern's, Macy's and Nordstrom, also featuring more than 245 specialty stores, including Aéropostale, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, The Disney Store, Gap, The Limited, Victoria's Secret, Warner Bros. Studio Store and many more. It is located at the intersection of Old Country Road and Meadowbrook Parkway. Long Island Beaches Among the more than 150 beaches operated by federal, state, county and town municipalities on Long Island are those near the Old Westbury campus, including the Fire Island National Seashore, stretching 26 miles through 17 beachfront communities and a natural wilderness area on the South Shore; and the largest and most widely-renowned of all Long Island beaches, also on the South Shore of Nassau County, Jones Beach.
