You use the Online Catalog to locate books, journals, audivisual media and
other materials at Old Westbury. Before you begin your search it is often a
good idea
to first consult the Library of Congress Subject Headings, a four volume set
located at the Reference Desk. These books provide an alphabetical list of
subject headings which correspond to subject headings used in the Online Catalog.
If you already know an Author or Title that
you would like to find you can simply select either option and begin your search.
You might also want to try a Keyword search where you can combine two or more
subject terms by using boolean operators such as and, or and not.
Once you have selected the type of search and entered your terms you click
on search and a results list will appear indicating how many citations were
found. Each citation provides bibliographic information such as author, title,
publisher and date as well as indicating the location, call
number and status of the item.
Once you have written down the location and call number of the item you can
enquire at the Reference Desk near the main entrance to the Library to find out where a book is located in the Library.
