Among the 1,000-plus titles in the Periodicals Department are The
New York Times,
where you can read about the Civil War as it happened and Time, Ebony, The
Crisis,
etc., where you can follow the civil rights era of the fifties and sixties. The
latest research in business, the natural and social sciences, and the humanities
is also available, as are daily papers and popular magazines.
The Periodicals
Department has two sections: open shelves, which hold most of the paper copies,
in addition to recent materials, and the microfilm cabinets,
which hold many of the older issues. There are machines which will print
paper copies from microfilm. All the Periodicals Department material is grouped
around the central staircase on the main floor.
