The Media Services Department, located on the lower level of the Library, with
a second location in the Campus Center, provides academic media services to the
College.
Services: In the library, Media Services acquires, organizes and provides
access to non-print media, including films, slides, audio recordings, and
video recordings.
Viewing Facilities: Screening rooms equipped with two HDTV's are available
for classes and sound-proof booths are available for individual use. Audiovisual
equipment and media can be loaned under certain conditions.
Media Services staff are responsible also for providing service to the nineteen
presentation classrooms located campus-wide. This service includes oversight
for the LCD projectors, audio equipment, and VCR/DVD players.
Production Facilities
As part of its services to support instruction, TV studio facilities, located
in another wing of the Campus Center, include two TV studios, a video-editing
room, and a computer lab. The TV studios upgrade include a new multi-use camera,
three DSR-370 DVCAM digital video cameras, a Sony DFS 700A production switcher,
and a SONY DSR-1800 DVCAM recorder.
The upgraded computer lab for non-linear video-editing includes six G-4 Mac
workstations with "Final Cut Pro" editing software. The lab is capable
of working with digital video formats utilizing Sony DVCAM and mini-DV.
The second TV studio will utilize the video "Toaster" system. It
has the capabilities to provide a virtual TV studio: live switching, character
generation, digital store, and multi-track audio mixing.
Video-and-Tele-Conferencing
Two satellite dishes are available for down linking programs and conferences.
The first band is a fixed position KU Band downlink handling the SUNY statewide
satellite network. The second dish is a KU and C band steerable unit used to
downlink commercially operated programs and events.
The video-conferencing room is furnished with Tandberg distance learning equipment.
